Digital Rights Management

It’s all about getting paid!

If you are an author or magazine publisher, Digital Rights Management (DRM) ensures you get paid for your copyright works, whilst reducing the likelihood of unauthorised copying and distribution of your publications.

Digital publications, once downloaded to a user’s computer, become vulnerable to pirating and illegal copying. To combat this unlawful behaviour,  DigiPix can incorporate DRM protection into your publications.

You can set up your own DRM account with a reputable on-line company, or you can make use of The Digipix DRM service which is operated by Digital River. Under this program, readers of your book will only be able to open the publication upon payment of the required fee. Alternatively, you may like to create a “Teaser” by allowing the first few pages, or the first chapter of a publication  to be read before requesting payment for the whole book or magazine.

Whichever option is chosen, your reader will be prompted within the digital book to click on a link where the publication, or magazine subscription can be paid. Payment can be made through a variety of credit cards, or through PayPal. Once a payment has been successfully received by the DRM company, the publication will be unlocked for reading, but only on the computer  where the publication was downloaded. If the unlocked publication is sent to others by way of email, or uploaded to a server for subsequent download by others (file sharing), the publication will revert back to its locked state.

In providing DRM services, the DRM company will charge a small fee on the sale of each publication. Additionally, if the DigiPix DRM facility is used, we will also charge a commission on all sales made.

Payments for your book will be collected by the DRM company and paid to you on a periodic basis - usually every month. However, you may have to wait 2 months for your first payment to allow for chargebacks. This only happens if a purchaser of your publication feels that the book does not deliver what was promised. Chargebacks are rare but do sometimes happen, so DRM companies have to retain some portion of your earnings to cover this eventuality.

For book authors, DRM is the perfect choice. You can freely upload your DRM protected publication to any ebook sites of your choice. People will then be free to download your books and read a small portion before being asked to commit to payment. It’s a great distribution method that involves very little cost.
