Many authors, particularly self publishers, now use digital media for the creation and distribution of books. In order to protect their copyright and revenues, such publications will usually incorporate digital rights management (DRM). This is a great way to safeguard against unauthorised distribution.
Digital books of this type are usually distributed over the Internet, and can be
downloaded by anyone. However, the book itself can be constructed in a such a way
that readers will only be able to read a predetermined number of pages before payment
for the book is required. When the reader reaches the final FREE page, he or she
will be instructed by the book itself to place an order to unlock the remainder of
the publication. This is all done by a simple click on a link in the book. The user
is then taken to the DRM web-
DRM also goes beyond collecting payment for the book, it also helps to generate further sales. This is because people who buy digital publications often distribute the unlocked copy to their friends. With our DRM system, unlocked books will only run on the computer that unlocked them. Therefore, if a copy is sent to another computer user, the book reverts back to its trial state, allowing the new recipient to see the FREE pages, but again, will prompt him or her to purchase the book when the last FREE page is reached. Many authors actually request an “email” button within their publications to encourage this form of distribution.
Digital Magazines can also be distributed and purchased this way. Some publishers provide a complete publication, but with a time lock built into it. This allows people to skip through an entire publication to get a feel of its content. However, once the time limit is reached, the publication is locked and the user has to buy the publication in order to unlock it again.
Any digiPix publication can have DRM included. Please contact us if you need further information about this feature.
